“Light as a sustainable source of living” On September 21, in the Design Institute, by organizing AT Architect held the very first gathering/conference in Georgia about Lighting Design, where two international lighting designers talked about the topic of "lighting as a sustainable source of living" together with Georgian professionals. The topic of Lorenzo Bruscaglion was - "Lighting Design Consultancy: The Key to Successful Project" and Katia Kolovea talked about - "The Intangible Force: How Light Shapes Spaces and Human Experiences."
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Greece Maria Theodorou, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy Fabiola Albanese, architects, interior designers, and representatives of the business sectors.
At the meeting, Katia Kolovea noted that lighting is everywhere, starting with natural lighting and continuing with artificial lighting. When lighting is manipulated in different forms, in different combinations it creates impressive results in architecture, design, or art... Lighting is an international universal language that conveys different messages whether we understand each other or not. Everyone's life has an emotional connection to lighting, from blowing out the candles on a celebratory cake to watching a mesmerising sunset.
It is lighting that forms our impression of a specific space and dictates the rules of behaviour in the space.
Lorenzo Bruscaglion shared with the meeting participants his experience and every detail of the design process while working on lighting design projects such as the Italian Pavilion in Dubai, the Bulgari installation, and various luxury retail spaces. He talked about how important is timely involvement of the lighting designer in architectural or interior projects, to highlight the right details with a properly planned lighting design to better represent the architecture and design of the project.
The event organizer, architect/lighting designer Ana Tavartkiladze, opened the conference, and she spoke about why lighting design is necessary. She shared with the meeting participants how much of a role properly planned lighting plays in biological rhythms, a person's work capacity, and mental health, which is also confirmed by research that lighting adapted to a person improves the quality of work in schools and offices by 19%; Reduces fatigue by 27% and improves concentration by 37%;
According to studies, cardiac patients who were placed in a space where lighting was controlled recovered twice as fast.
In patients with mental problems, mood improvement was observed in 2 weeks, when antidepressants take at least 4-5 weeks.
And, at the end of the gathering, the “Smart House” representative introduced various types of remote and automatic control systems to the guests. She spoke about the importance of technological possibilities of lighting control in modern life, which, in addition to comfort, contributes to energy efficiency. Lighting accounts for 11% of electric energy consumption, and in addition to properly selected lighting, intelligently planned management systems allow us to reduce utility bills and take care of the environment.
Lighting designers are lighting experts. They strive to create the best lighting for everyone, be it an individual piece of art, a single room, an entire house, an architectural project, or an interior design.
Lighting designers offer more than simple drawings and/or calculations. They do not sell or buy products. They pay attention to every detail and technical features to create the right accents. Their specialized knowledge allows them to use many types of lighting that best suit your situation, desires, or comfort, to create the best ambient experience with the help of lighting.
